This might have made him perfect for the role in this film though.ĭid you come away thinking it was believable that the guy who made The Room actually thought it was good, and that he and the other actors were good? I've only seen clips of The Room, but I find it hard to believe it wasn't intentionally bad. But maybe it wasnt!īTW, I like James Franco in Freaks & Geeks and Pineapple Express, but I heard him interviewed on NPR and he didn't sound terribly intelligent to me. Very much recommend it.Did you come away thinking it was believable that the guy who made The Room actually thought it was good, and that he and the other actors were good? I've only seen clips of The Room, but I find it hard to believe it wasn't intentionally bad. We saw it with two people who had not watched The Room and they seemed to laugh just as much as everyone else, so don't think you need to see the original beforehand (though this movie will definitely make you want to). It was also, no kidding, probably the funniest movie I've ever seen in the theater. I'm not a fan of James Franco in general but I thought he did a great job here, especially given that the character he's playing is remarkably difficult to imitate. Just saw The Disaster Artist, the James Franco vehicle about the making of the most infamous bad movie ever made, and its impenetrably strange writer/lead actor/director. Dunkirk fits in neatly with the best of them. Dunkirk was a throwback to big budjet WWII flics of the 50's,and 60's ,like The Longest Day, A Bridge To Far, Tora Tora Tora, big movies about the biggest deciding moment in modern history. As far as I could see there was a great amount of care in the "look" of the movie which extended ,Im sure, to civilian crafts.

I didn't have an issue with the # of civilian boats either. So all the boats seen were real, and Nolan resisted the urge to augment the scene with CGI boats.I enjoyed this immensely in the theater and will more than likely enjoy at home also. In fact, Nolan found many of the original boats used in the rescue, and also sourced boats that were of a similar look and of the same time period.

Personally I never had a problem with this, simply because surely not all of the boats would have left England and arrived in Dunkirk all at the same time. I know that one of the main criticisms of the movie was the lack of civilian rescue boats at the end. They also had to come up with new forms of mounts to affix the IMAX cameras onto the helicopters and other planes to film the dogfight sequences in the air. And they did actually strap those huge IMAX cameras onto the side of the planes. Nolan was determined not to use CGI or green screen where possible, and therefore much of what you see on screen is real.or if not actually real a practical effect, model or set.įor example, great length was gone to when finding the right planes.some real spitfires were used, but other similar craft were converted for some shots.

I recently upgraded to a 4K TV so it looked incredible, and the sound packed quite a punch, so much so I had to turn it down a few notches.Įxtras are pretty comprehensive too. Still enjoyed it as much as on first viewing.
